5 Reasons Why you Should Do a First Look - Day-of Coordinator Cincinnati

Before I dive into this topic, I want to make it clear that it is totally okay if you do not want to have a first look. I know it’s not everyone’s thing and it’s your day, so do what you want! If you are on the fence about having a first look on your wedding day, then I’ve got a few reasons why I think you SHOULD do it!

Seeing each other for the first time on your wedding day is incredibly special. With a first look, you share that moment only with each other instead of all 200 guests at the ceremony. You get to take a moment to be yourselves and soak it all in before the entire day becomes a blur. It’s perfectly acceptable to laugh, cry or do your secret handshake without anyone else seeing.

Calms the Nerves

There is so much build-up of seeing each other on wedding day that it is bound to make you a little nervous and anxious before you see your significant other. With a first look, you can calm your nerves early on in the day and it allows you to enjoy the entire wedding, not just the reception. I’ve seen even the most cool, calm and collected brides & grooms get anxious right before the first look. After the it’s over, it looks like a weight has been lifted off their shoulders.

Photo Ops

The first look gives photographers the ability to truly capture the emotions of seeing one another. The photographers might be 10 feet away from you for the first look vs. 100 feet at the ceremony. It also allows photographers to position you to have the best backdrop for the first look.

Also, you are able to get the couple photos done when you are at your freshest. Your hair is still curled, your makeup is fresh, you aren’t sweaty and you aren’t tired of posing for two hours of photos. The best photos are of you two, which matters!

Timing

A first look allows you to enjoy your wedding to the fullest. Getting all of the couple and bridal party photos done before the ceremony gives you time to enjoy the cocktail hour or gives you a second to relax in the bridal party suite. It also gives you a backup window for photos in case you were running behind earlier in the day.

You Still Feel the “Feels”

Many times I’ve heard, “We just want to have that feeling when we see each other walking down the aisle.” Well, let me be the first to tell you, you still have those “feels” even if you do a first look. I’ve got proof!

At the end of the day, the first look is 100% up to you and your significant other. I am not here to push you in one direction or the other, I want what is best for you two. But, if you are on the fence about it, I always recommend to do it. You are celebrating one of the biggest milestones of your life, be present for it and enjoy every second with your loved ones.
